Original Enamel Street Memorial Sign - World War 2 - French Resistance Fighter

Rue Jean Létienne

Resistant Fusille - Le 11 Août 1942

A very rare enamel sign. These were displayed after the Second World War in recognition of individuals who fought against the German occupation

This suggest Jean was a Rifleman who lost his life fighting against German occupation for the French Resistance

As relations improved between both countries in the following decades; these signs were removed in many areas to avoid causing further bad feelings

30cm tall

50cm wide

This is in fantastic original condition. Heavy rust has come through where brackets had sat behind. The eyelets may be brass. This may have been a later production item due to the flag. I don’t think this was displayed back in the 1940s

The sign has come from a local Militaria collector and I will be listing 2 more enamel signs that were purchased at the same time
