*Byakudan-nuri (白檀塗) is a traditional Japanese lacquerware technique that involves preparing a wooden base, applying an undercoat with cloth and sabi-urushi, and then adding a middle coat followed by repeated polishing.

A colored top coat, often reddish, is used to achieve its characteristic hues. Distinctive patterns are created using the maki-e technique with gold or silver powder and intricate colored lacquer designs. 

The surface is finally polished and buffed to enhance its beautiful gloss and patterns.
