On 24-May-24 at 16:52:45 BST, seller added the following information:

I have been informed by a very kind Gentleman that this helmet is a rare item. It was issued in the 1970s to officers of the rank of Inspector. Denoted by the two silver bands. It was only used on demonstration duties in Central London. It was not for normal duty as Inspectors do not wear helmets. It is to protect from attack during the violent demonstrations we had to deal with in the 1970s.

I am extremely grateful for this information and hope my judgment to remain with this auction is the right one.
