Butter Dish / Small Tray / Soap Dish / Sponge Holder / Jewelry Dish
by Grazia in Deruta, Italy

RARE Vintage 5.5" tray with crowing rooster.  This is a retired pattern (at least it seems to be no longer offered in their catalog).  This pattern is made by many Deruta pottery companies, but this is Grazia Majolica, and there is definitely a quality difference.

I really don't know what it was meant to be, but I used it to hold my sponge beside the sink.  Purchased at an antique shop some years ago.

ORVIETO Green Rooster:
The Orvieto (or Orvietano) design is a very old and traditional pattern that originated during the Renaissance in the hill-top town of Orvieto – Italy.
Truly one of Italy's most unique and interesting cities, Orvieto has a charming medieval character, mainly due to its celebrated Cathedral, a gem of Gothic architecture that took more than 100 years to build.
The 'Galletto' (Rooster) pattern's main motif is a crowing rooster that symbolizes good wishes for blessings, prosperity and well-being.
Hand made in Deruta, Italy.

Since 1500 the Grazia family has been committed to producing high quality majolica ceramics using time honored handicraft traditions passed down from generation to generation. The family prides itself on continuing these traditions in the production of modern day masterpieces. Some of these traditional designs are manufactured by other ceramic companies in Deruta but not all majolica is created equal. Grazia majolica is distinguished by its superior glazing which enhances the color and by the high skill of its painters to replicate time honored designs.

This makes a great gift, especially for a housewarming as the crowing rooster is a symbol for good wishes.

Excellent condition.  Colors still bright, surface is glossy, not chips, cracks or crazing.

From a smoke-free, healthy home.
