Land Rover military ambulance, 1972 series 2A, 2286cc petrol, overdrive, tax & MOT exempt.

This old Land Rover needs some major work, but really deserves to be put back on the road.
Chassis is corroded in many places, and may or may not be repairable, but the bulkhead definitely needs to be replaced (way beyond my capabilities and that's why I'm selling).
All brake lines and wheel cylinders need renewing (currently no footbrakes, only handbrake).

Vehicle is fitted with an ex-military series 3 gearbox and transfer box (so has synchro on 1 and 2).  Fairey overdrive also fitted.

Engine turns over, starts and runs, but revs are uneven. Needs work. See recent video of the ambulance moving on my driveway.
After several years parked up outside, this vehicle needs a thorough mechanical overhaul.

The coachwork and ambulance saloon are all pretty solid. A few old dents from the army days, but no accident damage that I know of. Doors are all serviceable (with locks). Defender seats and mirrors. Main lights and flashers work. Windscreen wipers also work. Charging circuit working (but battery is past it).

I used this old truck for many years as a brilliant camper, on short trips within Wales (sleeps one or two people comfortably - well insulated, quiet on a noisy campsite, and weatherproof). Some basic storage features have been added (easily removed).

I've owned this vehicle since 2012 and the V5 registration document is in my name.
Vehicle was last on the road in 2021. Last MOT was in May 2017, then registered exempt. Currently SORN.
One previous owner after the military. Many past documents available to pass on. Very low mileage <35,000 miles (some proof).

Other details: Radiator is good, cooling system works. Twin fuel tanks ok, no leaks. Heater/air blower and foglamps do not work. Steering is functional. Springs rusty but intact. One of the two roof ventilator hoods has been removed and sealed with a plate (never been a problem). Safari roof (saloon stays cool in the sun). Saloon windows all good.

I have not kept any of the old military stretcher hardware or emergency lights etc.

The vehicle is easily accessible for trailer collection (wheelbase 109"/  body width 75ins/190cms)
Location South Carmarthenshire, Wales.

Bits and pieces included in sale -  Full set of new Series 2A LWB kunifer alloy brake pipes. New brake master cylinder. Set of flexible brake hoses. Rear brake line T-connector. Unopened tins of paint: 2.5L NATO green satin and 250ml deep bronze green. Replacement military type twin fanbelt set. Also a caravan awning that fits along the ambulance side if wanted.
