Miss Clare Remembers, Miss Read, Illustrated by J.S Goodall, Michael Joseph, 1962, First Edition, First Impression

The fourth novel of the Fairacre series and now one of the rarest, this is a story about Miss Clare, who taught the infants class at Fairacre for the greater part of her life. Now in her seventies, and retired, living alone in the cottage that has been her home since 1894, she looks back upon a quiet life in a remote English village. The changes in its aspect, its way of life, and its education, the impact of two wars and the events of six reigns form the background to her own story.

The book has been beautifully illustrated by J.S. Goodall.
