THE  STARBUCKS

 by Opie Read

 was published by Laird & Lee in  1902.   A novel set in a Tennessee community,  322 pages.   INSCRIBED  and  SIGNED by the author:  "To Peggy ______ -  Ah, nature gave unto herself a smile when you were born.   Opie Read   June 6, 1925"  The handwriting is someone shaky.    8 color plate illustrations.  The binding is pictorial, pink & blue with gilt bordering, about 5" x 8".

 Unfortunately, a child has made forms and the letter A on the front pages, a light but big A in pencil on the inscription page.    On the back five or six pages are more of these pencil A's, lines, and shading with a pencil.   It's readable but the worst is on the last page and an announcement page about the book being dramatized in Chicago.  The boards are loose but intact.  Wear to the extremities.  Browned pages.    A few spots on the back binding.
