Fabulous vintage brooch featuring a lady wearing a black hat with large pink plumed feather and a black coat with mink collar and large black satin bow. She is hand-painted on mother of pearl. A nice ebayer told me that "She is a miniature copy of a painting of a famous Russian artist, Ivan Kramskoi, originally done in 1883. The name of this painting is "Unknown Woman", but some experts are saying it was inspired by the Tolstoy novel "Anna Karenina". Set in a silver metal frame with elegant twisted "rope" trim, this stunning brooch measures 2" long and 1 1/2" wide. It is in excellent condition - there is a small amount of wear to the mother-of-pearl finish along the border of the frame over the lady's hat. Gorgeous and very unusual piece of vintage jewelry!
