FYI... There is much confusion in the Old Time Radio sphere regarding this series. "The Avenger" has NOTHING to do with "The Avengers." "The Avengers" was a series of programs that were created in the 1970s based on the British television series of the same name. Some sellers offer both series together and package it as if it is the same series.

"The Avenger" is a fictional character whose original adventures appeared between September 1939 and September 1942 in the pulp magazine "The Avenger", published by Street and Smith Publications. "The Avenger" was a pulp hero who combined elements of "Doc Savage" and "The Shadow."

The authorship of the pulp series was credited by Street and Smith to Kenneth Robeson, the same byline that appeared on the "Doc Savage" stories. The "Kenneth Robeson" name was a house pseudonym used by a number of different Street & Smith writers. Most of the original Avenger stories were written by Paul Ernst.

"The Avenger" radio series originated from Long Island, NY-based station WHN and was broadcast over a time-span of 62 weeks. It also seems to have aired on many stations across the United States as a transcription series. The 62 weeks refer only to the period during which the program aired, not the number of shows. There were apparently a number of preemptions, due to coverage of sporting events. Most likely, the series consisted of a then standard run of 26 half-hour episodes (plus repeats).

This collection of "The Avenger" radio programs features 26 shows on 1 CD. Each show is presented in the .mp3 format. There are several hours of entertaining "The Avenger" programs.

The CD is labeled and provided in a highly protective jewel case. A list of the programs on the disc as well as the date the program originally aired (if known) is also provided.

A note concerning sound quality. The sound quality for the shows in this collection is very good to good. It is difficult to find perfect recordings from the golden age of radio due to the equipment used for recording and the fact that many of the recordings were made 60, 70 or even 80 years ago.
