White Berlin Gloves, 1876 (119-B)

A nice pair of White Berlin Gloves, made regulation and adopted May 31, 1876, to be worn with a nine-button dress coat during inspections and other dress occasions by enlisted personnel. These white cotton dress gloves are extremely scarce and were worn by infantry and other dismounted troops as after the mid-1880’s, all mounted troops were issued leather gauntlets. Prior to 1884, all enlisted troops, even those mounted were issued these cotton gloves. Each have a small elastic band, about one inch long, fastened to the inner side of the wrist area. The soldier has written his initials discreetly below the wrist band, “WE”. Otherwise, these are in excellent condition, not soiled, no split or weak seams, and very flexible throughout. Necessary to complete a dress uniform for enlisted soldiers.
