Henri Cartier-Bresson

Daniel Wronecki

New York

New York. Photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Daniel Wronecki and others. Text by Daniel Wronecki. Fernand Nathan, Paris, 1949. First edition. 187 pages. Quarto. Stiff wrappers in photo-illustrated jacket. Gravure reproductions. Text in French. Captions to images appended. Good minus.

Published three years before The Decisive Moment, this celebration of New York features 64 of Cartier-Bresson's photographs of the Big Apple (along with 19 by Wronecki and 44 by others). Together the images presented here are the quintessential outsiders' view of the city; a side by side comparison with the work of Helen Levitt or William Klein would be incredibly revealing.

Good plus. Cover shows a bit of tanning at the bottom edge. Light wear. DJ is price intact. Crease to the top edge DJ front and back Few soil spots to DJ back cover. Few short tears to the DJ edges. Internally wonderful photographs. Bright. Tanning to edges. Binding is fragile. All pages attached but some starting to separate from the binding.

Photographs printed in gorgeous gravure. A wonderful book.
