It dates back to ancient times when chariots painted to inspire a warrior’s confidence in the face of death thundered across battle fields far from home. The men who flew in these planes were true American heroes, many of whom never came back, sacrificing their lives so that others might live free, while those who did return knew they fought and won a long and brutal war where good triumphed over evil.
Today it’s mainly the sons and daughters who remember the War Stories of their father’s and grandfather’s missions flying Bombers in World War II; war machines whose painted noses like back in the day of the chariot, inspired confidence in the face of death.
White Star Line Archives & Images salutes that great generation of heroes with a broad collection of Vintage Bomber Nose Art photos that it hopes might help keep alive the memories of those who rose up, fought and won against the Axis Powers’ murderous attempt at global conquest during WWII.
