Exa-Pump® “Mini”
Compact Ultra High-Performance Electric Scavenge Pump

Another Industry First.

Created from the same materials as it’s big brother Exa-Pump®, the Exa-Pump® “Mini” offers the exact same high-temperature, high-reliability pump technology in a smaller form-factor more suitable to physically tighter applications such as motorcycles, quads, personal watercraft, snow machines, or any space-limited or ultra weight-critical racing application. The Mini is also the first pump in this field to offer external motor brushes for easy/inexpensive replacement. The custom heatsink allows the entire motor/pump head assembly infinite rotation allowing optimal orientation of the in/out ports, including port functional reversal.

This pump was designed from the ground up to handle the most extreme conditions found in any motor vehicle, with a special emphasis on turbocharger oil scavenging applications. Built on extremely rugged spur gear technology, this small-frame 350F continuously rated pump offers aerospace/military-grade quality in a compact/lightweight package.

• Rated voltage may be exceeded by up to 25%. Warranty void if applied voltage exceeds 25% of rated voltage as labeled.
• For 100% compatibility with 16-18V set-ups on race vehicles, choose the 24V version.
• Operating Current: 12 VDC version is <5A nominal, 15A maximum. 24 VDC version is <2.5A nominal, 7.5A maximum. Pump MUST be protected by fuse or circuit breaker - 12V pump 15A, 24V pump 7.5A. A fuse or circuit breaker will protect the pump from permanent damage in case of rotor-lock from ingesting foreign debris. Note “nominal” means the typical current in a typical installation as a scavenge pump with a free-flowing output. When the temperature of the oil is very low, the oil’s viscosity is much greater, and the pump will consume more current until the oil warms up. The fuse or circuit breaker current value takes into account the additional current needed for pumping oil at low temperatures. As a pressure-pump, the pumps are rated min. 30PSI. Exceeding any of these ratings will void warranty. (30-50PSI operation range is possible, but not guaranteed or warranted).
• Two-year Warranty - warranty void if pump is modified, or current ratings exceeded. Warranty only for genuine TurboWerx products purchased from TurboWerx or authorized resellers. No user-serviceable parts within the pump, warranty void if pump is opened. Do not remove or replace ANY fasteners. Warranty and terms of sales.

Good Things Come in Small Packages.

The Exa-Pump® “Mini” is the ideal choice for motorcycles/drag-bikes. But the Mini is perfectly suited for any space- or weight-challenged application. It is important to note the Mini has the capacity to be used with any twin-turbo set-up as well. Big-brother Exa-Pump® is equipped with 10,000 hour brushes, but due to the compact nature of the Exa-Pump® Mini, there was not enough physical room for these over-size brushes. Our next best solution was to introduce external brush technology that allows easy/inexpensive replacement of the 2,000 hour brushes without having to dismount the pump. No other pump offered in this realm offers this feature.

PROTECTION: Don't forget to ensure clean, filtered oil entering the pump by utilizing one of our filter solutions available in our other listings, such as our Exa-Pure™ inline filter.

CONSUMER WARNING:

Be extremely wary of any cheap gear pump offered up for sale purporting to be a "turbo" oil scavenge pump. Identification is easy - they are black with brass pump heads, or are painted all white or blue. These are ALL cheap Chinese-made cold-water pumps! They are simply re-labeled (or un-labeled) marine, intermittent-duty TRANSFER pumps - TOTAL JUNK - and totally inappropriate for this critical application. $1200+ turbo(s) at risk from a cheap Chinese-made WATER(!) pump. These are commonly available throughout the world, especially on eBay - eg, seller gkwholesale who has now recently resurfaced as wholesalegk. The latest source for this Chinese garbage is ebay seller kap_distributors. These are the same failure-prone types sourced by STS, RB RACING, etc.  Regardless of what these sellers claim, these pumps will fail prematurely. We see it constantly - once or twice each week minimum. And no wonder - they are NOT even designed to run continuously, and all are specified to a maximum of 170-185F (WAY too low for turbo drain oil, and which is why none of these sellers specify the operating temperature nor where its made). These are some of the reasons TurboWerx had their pumps custom designed by the actual pump manufacturer engineers with all the proper materials and components, specifically for this application. Half of TurboWerx pump sales are from customers who are replacing a failed competitor's pump, and more importantly, most of these suffered turbo damage/failure, and even engine damage. The difference in price for a properly designed pump is absolutely trivial compared to the risk. If you have the opportunity to inspect or open up any other seller's pump - regardless of their claim otherwise - you will find "China" as the manufacturing origin. Please do not just take our word for it...do your own on-line research on the TurboWerx Exa-Pump, and contrast this with the disastrous results of utilizing the cheap water pumps for turbo oil-return. You have been warned.

TurboWerx continues market dominance year after year, and is the only manufacturer to offer a 2-year warranty for the Exa-Pump®, even for racing applications, when purchased from TurboWerx, or an authorized reseller.

** Going further:
Compare for yourself. Here is a typical example of a cheaply made gear pump misapplied for the turbo oil scavenge market and the factory specification sheet for it (scroll down to page 8 for English version/temperature limits): Marco UP3/OIL Spec Sheet. Even though it's an Italian company, their pumps, like ALL the others, are Chinese-made with the lowest quality materials. The most important facts in the factory specification are:

• Maximum fluid temperature of 185F.  - This is even below the engine oil temperature before it goes through the turbo!
• Maximum ambient temperature 60C (140F).  - Just about every active part under the car is much higher than this.
• No warranty if used for turbo oil temps - Page 8 states the warranty will expire if maximum fluid temperature is exceeded!
• Page 7 states twice "discontinuous or intermittent use."- No wonder these things fail so quickly.
• Replace brushes every 2000 operating hours.   - Major maintenance every 12 months due to low-quality,  minimum-cost brushes?

VDO - Another electrical oil pump that has recently surfaced in the marketplace is the unit made by VDO. This pump is being improperly marketed on eBay out of the U.K. by seller pepperperformance1 as a "universal" turbo oil scavenge pump for aftermarket applications. This the pump was NOT designed for this - not even close. The flow specifications are woefully inadequate - LESS THAN 0.6GPM (pathetic!). TurboWerx Exa-Pumps far exceed this, and are far more rugged. The VDO unit is known to jam easily, and fail. The VDO pump was designed for circulating engine oil through an external oil cooler - NOT as a scavenge pump (and certainly not for any pressure applications), and is way overpriced for what it does do. There is a reason the VDO unit has no warranty offered, whereas TurboWerx Exa-Pumps have a 2-year manufacturer's warranty. Once again, you have been warned.
