FLOWER TRAVELLIN’ BAND
satori
Release Date: 06/03/2008
THE FLOWER TRAVELLIN BAND’s first musical outing, CHALLENGE, which released in ‘70 and was essentially a series of covers of CREAM, HENDRIX, BIG BROTHER and JEFFERSON AIRPLANE material. However, “Satori” appeared a year later and changed forever the way the group would be perceived, both in Japan and the musical world at large. “Satori” is a huge album in every way. From power chords to Eastern-tinged North African six string freak-outs and crashing tom-toms, the band flexes its collective muscle from start to finish. In short, this is a real rock classic of the type they simply don’t make any more.
Lauded by everyone from Julian Cope to Stoner Metallers alike, Japan’s Flower Travellin’ Band’s 1971 album is a true smokin’ classic.
‘satori’ is spread into 5 parts, dripping with heavy repetitive riffs, acid leads, space and power (‘part 3’ is a churning, grinding joy) but still with a
psychy brightness and freshness. think sabbath in the sunshine. a joy of an album.
