"THE FINISH”

Over a period of several years we have developed the uniquely durable and beautiful finish used on most of the products we market throughout Costa Rica. It is 100% natural and comes from the oil of the Tagua nut (which is as hard as cement) and requires a special technique for removing the oil. When this finish is applied it requires temperatures of around 400deg Fahrenheit. This process preservers the natural beauty of the wood 5 to 10 times better than a lacquer finish. The process involves 9 painstaking, precision steps thus providing the finest, longest-lasting finish possible:

An email from Rick:

Hi Jerry, Just wanted you to know I received the referenced grips today 10/03/2011. They are truly beautiful! I have numerous Colt 1911 grips, original factory, after market cocobolo checkered cut on original Colt factory machines with medallions from Colt not cheap Asian copies, and a set of true elephant ivory obtained from Novack the 1911 sight expert company. There were 2 sets available, Steven Segal (the actor and Marshall Art’s expert) bought one set and I bought the other. Of all the Colts (and I only buy Colts) that I and buy for modification upgrades, I only buy parts from Novak, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown and Karl Lippard (the best of the best). I consider the cocobolo heartwood grips I bought from you to be only second in quality, value and beauty to the original elephant ivory grips I own (the ivory ones were very expensive!) I will show your grips with pride and tell all I encounter where they may find you to obtain such a high quality and beautiful set of grips.

Best regards, Rick Hune (texasexpat)

"The Micro Fine Fusion Baked Finish"

I think you have a winning finish here! It feels durable to me, it looks FABULOUS and, for the few guys who would prefer a dull finish, they could easily kill the gloss with fine paper (or even a "green pad") and polish with coarse rubbing compound for a nice, satin gloss. I think your process of heat-fusing the surface finishes is a great idea. It should give you an edge over other manufacturers.

Definitely worth bragging about in your listings. LEO

THE WOOD

MANGO WOOD:

It is the largest fruit-tree in the world, capable of a height of one-hundred feet and an average circumference of twelve to fourteen feet, sometimes reaching twenty.

The species appears to have been domesticated about 4,000 years ago.

The mango tree is erect, 30 to 100 ft (roughly 10-30 m) high, with a broad, rounded canopy which may, with age, attain 100 to 125 ft (30-38 m) in width, or a more upright, oval, relatively slender crown. In deep soil, the taproot descends to a depth of 20 ft (6 in), the profuse, wide-spreading, feeder root system also sends down many anchor roots which penetrate for several feet. The tree is long-lived, some specimens being known to be 300 years old and still fruiting.

Mango ranks 1,070 on the Janka scale, which rates wood for density. Domestic red oak, by comparison, ranks 1,290 on the same scale. The grain pattern and light-brown color resemble domestic birch, but because of spalting -- varied colors caused by a fungus growing in the wood -- streaks of pink, black, yellow, amber and green sometimes appear. Mottled or curly grain patterns are common in mango, making it appear blotchy, similar to the popular look of faded antique furniture. Because of its sustainability and widespread use, the cost of mango is moderate to inexpensive compared with other hardwoods. Highly spalted mango with vivid colors can command premium prices. Mango’s natural wave patterns have a very attractive shimmering iridescent lustrous look!

 SPALTED WOOD

The lines of Spalted wood can be so intricate that it looks as though they were penned by an ancient calligrapher. By using a little imagination one can begin to see pictorial figures such as maps of the world, animals, birds, fish and mountains. The possibilities for Spalted wood products are limited only by imagination and ingenuity. It is selective in its territory and marks its boundaries with lines that hold mystery as well as beauty. It demonstrates the divine order of nature as well as random tendencies. It is splendid in both its complex appearance and its simple biology. It is held in high esteem for its natural beauty by wood turners and craftsman.Because Spalted wood is consistently inconsistent in appearance it is in high demand within the decorative wood markets. Each piece is unique and completely different from the next.Spalting occurs in many species but most commonly in birches, beeches and maples. Buckeye, elm, basswood, sycamore, and apple spalt, but it is relatively unknown in red and white oak. It also occurs in some of the exotic hardwoods of Central & South America such as Ron - Ron, Cocobolo & others. We culture or grow our own spalted wood so we are guaranteed the finest of quality!!
