Description
A large and heavy vintage cast brass door knocker with a lions head mask. Probably early 20th century in date and the hinged knocker is sold cast making for a very substantial items. The reverse has threaded bars for fitting to a door and these have a working depth of about 25-45mm. The knocker hits the lions lower mane so there is no need for a separate knock plate.
This example has been kept part polished with the high points being fairly bright, and the natural oxidisation allowed to build in between which gives it a nice aged look. No makers or foundry marks found.
Condition
Kept part polished with oxidisation in the crevices. Aging and oxidisation as expected (and desired) for vintage door furniture. Rusting to the bar threads, but nuts seem to work and are free. Works fine mechanically, and mechanism very solidly fixed - fine to use.
