Trucks - Series "D" |
|
Trucks as PEZ dispensers sounded like a good idea in 1979. It went over well, prompting many variations and colors. Initially, trucks had only one rear axel (Series A) but quickly went to a two rear axle design (Series B). All the wheels on these trucks turned. In 1981, Yugoslavia began to make the trucks and the cabs were modified to look more like traditional Semi-Trucks - still with moveable wheels (Series C). Early trucks had cab design numbers on the side (1,2,3,5,16 etc). In transition from type "C" to type "D" trucks, 4 distinct cab styles which were selected and their numbers also stamped on the side of the cab: R1, R2, R3, R4. In 1987 feet began to appear on PEZ dispensers, but not on trucks - No need, as trucks were displayed flat on their wheels. The 4.9 patent was issued in 1990 but did not show up at all plants immediately. In 1991, the wheels on the rear of the truck were made immobile (Series D) but the 4 designs remained the same as when introduced on "C" trucks (R1,R2,R3,R4). Yugoslavia finally changed the stem of Series D trucks from 3.9 to 4.9 in mid 1991. In 1993, The country changed its name to Slovenia. In 2004 A completely new truck series called Big Rigs appeared (along with specialty editions such as the Walgreens trucks).
