How cool is this?! The Royal Canadian Mint brings us innovation at its finest - a ten troy ounce pure silver multi-dimensional coin! The poured silver statuette of a majestic grizzly bear by wildlife artist Karl Lansing, plated in 24-karat gold, rises out of the proof coin!

You've never seen anything quite like this before - get yours before they're gone for good!

The mighty grizzly bear (Ursus arctos) has been an important feature of North American culture and mythology for millennia before the first Europeans ever set foot on our continent. Even today, it is one of the foremost species that we often put on a pedestal - a sacred totem to the Native Americans, and a powerful symbol of the unspoiled Canadian wilderness. This pure silver coin serves as a proud showcase of the noble grizzly bear, through a sculptor-designed statuette that conveys the essence of the grizzly's legendary strength and power.

Original Work of Art by Renowned Big Game Sculptor Karl Lansing
Designed by Canadian big game wildlife sculptor Karl Lansing, your coin represents a sculptural celebration of a Canadian icon. Carefully shaped to exactly replicate a large adult grizzly bear (Ursus arctos), a silver gold-plated statuette emerges from the coin's flat surface for a true multi-dimensional look and feel. The grizzly bear's distinctive hump and concave facial profile are prominent, along with its rounded ears. As the bear pauses mid-step to look to the right, one yearns to touch the statuette's ridged surface, which beautifully mimics the bear's shaggy fur.

Despite its unusual shape, each coin is safely protected inside a dome-like capsule that protects it. The coin-cum-statue rests on a wooden plinth or base, lined with black velvet, that conceals a hidden compartment for the certificate. The entire base and dome assembly is protected by a black outer box. An individually-numbered certificate of authenticity is included.

Five different wildlife statuette coins in the Sculptures of Majestic Canadian Animals program are planned:

1) Grizzly Bear
    2) Cougar (Mountain Lion)
    3) Bighorn Sheep
    4) Elk (Wapiti)

The Fearsome Grizzly Bear
It's a true thrill to wildlife lovers when they catch a glimpse of the mythic grizzly in the wild! The fearsome grizzly bear is probably the most dangerous land mammal in North America. These massive and powerful animals can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and stand up to 8 feet tall on their hind legs, yet are capable of running at speeds up to 35 miles per hour! Perhaps best known as salmon hunters during the spawning season, grizzlies are opportunistic omnivores, eating almost anything in season, from fruits, nuts, honey and berries, to insects, grubs and small mammals, to much larger prey. As such they can be very dangerous to humans, especially when startled or when defending their young. One bite from a grizzly bear can crush a person's skull, so powerful are its jaws. Although they were held in high esteem for eons by Native Americans because of their spirits, grizzlies have been eradicated throughout most their range in North America, partly by hunters for trophies, and partly because of simple fear.
