‘Black is the only color that doesn’t distract from the form,’ Prof. F. A. Porsche, father of the unmistakable 911 shape, is said to have once claimed. This seemed plausible to us, so we designed the new look for the purists among the Porsche Driver’s Selection watches using this principle as inspiration. The new Essential watch black edition reflects the distinct lines of the Porsche look. Deliberately understated design elements interact with the asymmetric placement of the crown to create a unique dynamic. But there’s something else that’s typical of Porsche: the brilliant technology. The new black edition is made in Switzerland and every stop of the manufacturing process is meticulously monitored. There’s a good reason that ‘Swiss made’ has been a marque of quality for timepieces worldwide for centuries. The art of watch making has been continuously improved in Switzerland ever since the Huguenots brought their knowledge about the discipline to Geneva in the second half of the 16th century. Switzerland has been one of the most important watch producers in the world since the middle of the 19th century. Innovations such as the first waterproof wristwatch and the invention of the one-sided winding rotor for automatic watches have secured the Swiss Confederation’s reputation as a watch nation. One could say that Switzerland is to the watch what Zuffenhausen is to the sports car. Limited to 911 units. Swiss Ronda quartz movement. Mineral glass with sapphire coating.
