This is a complete set of J.R.R. Tolkien's genre making epic, 'The Lord Of The Rings,' including the prequel, 'THE HOBBIT.'  PLEASE NOTE; Books have swell at hinges and were really straining the box; I will leave it to the new owner to stuff them back in but I would not recommend it.

The matching boxed set pre-dates the terrific Peter Jackson films, and (I believe) are original to the slipcase from the US publisher, BALLANTINE/DEL-REY released around 1980.  Books and case are used and show some wear to covers, colors, tanning to pages and use to spines.  Inside pages are in good used condition, uninked and clean, though used; seem to have spent most of their lives housed in the publisher's slipcase

'THE HOBBIT,'  Pocket book softcover 61st reprint stated on CR page, 1977 is the latest date I can find, cover priced at $1.95.  Book is gently used with curved but mostly smooth spine, overall good condition, some light scuffs, finish-loss and minor reader-wear to covers, bumps and rubbing to lower edges and heels.  Hinges are cracked but binding is good and sturdy.  Pages are clean, uninked and flat, tight to binding.   Some bumps to heels and corners, no loss but mild bumping to corners and heels.  Good clean pages are tanned but flat and tight to binding.  No ink.  No scent or stains that I can detect.

'THE LORD OF THE RINGS, Part One; The Fellowship Of The Ring,' 62nd print, 1977 latest date on CR page, US reprint.  'Part One' stated on the front cover.  Copyright page and several leaves in are heavily dog-eared.  Used but good condition.  Some light bumping to covers and to lower edges, some use to spine, mild bumps to both covers.  Still looks quite sharp with no major color loss.  Some bumps to heels and corners, light tanning to page-edges. No ink.  No scent or stains that I can detect.  Pages are mildly tanned, clean and flat, still presentable.

'THE TWO TOWERS,' 58th US PB 1977 reprint. 'Part 2' on the cover.  '$1.95' price on the spine and on front cover.  Book is in used but good condition, some bumps and rubbing.  Covers and spine have very minor wear, no creases, bumps with light color loss.  Covers still decent, hinges are cracked but sturdy.  Pages have corner bumps with dog-ears again but are mostly flat and clean.  Covers are good too, some bumps to heels and corners, no loss to corners or heel.  Good clean pages are flat and tight to binding.  No ink.  No scent or stains that I can detect.  Pages are clean and flat.

'THE RETURN OF THE KING, Part 3' 56th US reprint, 1977 paperback, some light reader wear to covers, creases, tip and curve to spine.  Good reading copy.

'BOX or SLIPCASE' as it might be called is also in used but good, collectible condition.  Some heavy bumping, shelf-wear to colors, loss to corners and edges; Mostly in good shape.
