Color: Dark Amber
Authentic, top quality, natural, mineral mica flakes (mined from the earth) are combined with resin and bonded together to form sheets (approx. “.030” inch thick). This is not the paper thin mica used by many lampshade manufacturers. This mica is thick and rich with natural mineral deposits giving each piece unique characteristics. Mica can be heat molded and shaped into cylinders or used as flat panel inserts into lampshades, hanging fixtures, sconces, or cabinets. Perfect for your old antique lamp.
Mica can be easily cut with a band saw, scroll saw or metal shear; not so effectively with a craft knife or super heavy duty scissors. It can be punched, drilled, stamped, embossed, painted, wired, beaded and shaped to suit your own creation. Although lampshade mica has been used since the 19th c. many artists are just now discovering its versatility as a new medium in artistic expression.
