Here on offer is an antique miniature watercolour, head and shoulder portrait of Victorian gentleman, “Matthew Murray” in fine cloths, circa 1877.

The beautifully detailed watercolour is set in an oval gilt frame with a domed glass front. This has been fitted into a rectangular black lacquer wooden plaque, which has a metal acorn and leaf hanger at the top.

On the back is a hand written label which is difficult in places to identify, but seems to read:

Matthew Murray

Born Langholm June 16^th 1805

Died York Oct 27^th 1877

The miniature is in excellent condition with just some age rub marks to the black lacquer and slight loss of gilt to the oval frame.

The frame measures 6.2” (15.7cm) by 5” (12.7cm).

The oval metal frame measures 3.4” (8.5cm) by 2.9” (7.3cm).

It weighs 107g.
