A vintage Braun Coiffeur set with Hairdryer HLD 3/31 (Model 4425) designed by Reinhold Weiss in 1972 (Boxed / MINT)

This vintage Braun piece recalls the first firm’s first hairdryer – the HLD 2, which Reinhold Weiss designed in 1964.

Here the original rectangular rocker switch has been replaced with a less formal circular yellow button. This feature had been introduced by Dieter Rams in his iconic HLD 4 model in 1970. Furthermore, the cylindrical shape of the rear section mirrors the H 7 heater, which Weiss has co-designed with Rams in 1967.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York holds eleven Reinhold Weiss items in its permanent collection, including the HLD 2 hairdryer.

This hairdryer comes in a boxed Coiffeur set that includes a pouch and original box, instructions card and guarantee leaflet. It is in absolutely mint / unused working condition. It's a truly fabulous find.

The hairdryer has a continental European 2-pin plug and has an integral voltage selector for 220 or 110 volts. There are several important things to note about functionality.

Most importantly, all vintage electrical items are sold here as decorative items only without guarantee of functionality or safe usage. Any vintage electric item absolutely must be fully safety checked by a qualified electrician before being plugged into the mains. Please see my important condition of sale note covering all types of vintage electrical items below.

Secondly, following any safety check, it is important to note that the hair dryer would require an inexpensive socket adapter to be used outside continental Europe. They are definitely NOT intended for use with bathroom shaver sockets.

Furthermore, the items' functionality has been tested – for the buyer’s information only - on UK mains electricity supply. The selector for 110 volts was not tested. Prospective buyers from other countries must check with an electrician local to them to confirm safe compatibility.

Payment and Postage

Paypal is accepted. UK buyers only may also pay by cheque or postal order. If it's a cheque, please allow 7 to 10 days for it to clear. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible for overseas customers to pay by another means such as bank transfer in GBP£ by prior arrangement.

Non-payment

All non-paying bidders are, without exception, reported to eBay. This is not for the sake of being vindictive, but because eBay charges retrospective fees calculated on the actual sale price of items and this money needs to be retrieved. It's hard enough to make ends meet on here as it is! Thank you for your understanding. Please refer to eBay's policy on non-payment for more information, including its ramifications for the bidder.

Condition of items

Please note that, unless clearly stated otherwise, my listings are for vintage/antique items and therefore, by definition, are not going to be in the same condition you would expect from a brand new item. Please be assured that I always endeavour to offer the most accurate description possible of the item's condition and take multiple illustrative photographs.

Vintage electrical items
