Here on offer is an antique English hallmarked solid silver
double Albert pocket watch chain with large fob.
The T-Bar is ‘maker marked” and ‘hallmarked’,
but the marks are slightly rubbed.
The hallmarks show the Lion Passant for English sterling silver (925)
and what looks like the date letter “U”
for the year 1894.
The maker mark is F.W.C, but I can’t find any reference to this maker on
the silversmith web sites.
Each of the long graduated chains have a spring clasp fitted at one edge
that are stamped with 925, for sterling silver. I think these are later
replacement clasps.
The silver Fob is also stamped with the English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for
English silver (925), an anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date
letter “b” for the year 1901.
There are also the makers marks, which are slightly rubbed but look like
C.E, which I can’t find a makers name for.
The fob has an ornately decorated front, with a plain blank shield cartouche
in the centre. The back is also plain but does show some scratch marks.
Each long chain measures 9.6”
(24.5cm) long and the shorter chain including the Fob is 3.2” (8.3cm) long,
both including the T-bar.
The links are about 0.2” (0.5cm)
wide at their widest point.
It weighs 36g.
