Up for sale, a 1964 Gibson SG Special in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Weighing in at only 6lbs 2oz, this SG is incredibly lively and clear acoustically, ringing out with a bark and authority that only comes from a guitar that's been consistently and lovingly played for decades. The stock P-90s absolutely roar and can deliver everything from glassy, articulate cleans to growling heavy overdrive with ease. Few instruments are as dynamic and simply soulful as this SG Special, which has been freshly restrung here at our shop, Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, with 10-46 strings and low action.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a C shape that's notably slender at the nut, with plenty of roundness and shoulder as you move up the board, achieving "baseball bat" girth by the time you reach the octave and beyond. On the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, the guitar boasts a professional refret with medium jumbo fretwire. These frets have plenty of meat and show just a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-3. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe single line strip tuners with stock white buttons turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

The electronics are 100% stock aside from a new input jack, with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to '64. Both original P-90 pickups have clean bobbins, original winds, and stock covers. The "lightning bolt" wraparound bridge is a new modern chrome replacement from MojoAxe which is compensated for optimal intonation with a plain G string, and the tailpiece studs are modern replacements as well. The small batwing pickguard and switch surround are stock, while the reflector cap knobs are an older set, yet not original to the guitar.

The nitro lacquer Cherry finish is completely original with no touchups or overspray and has gorgeous, prominent horizontal and vertical lacquer checking in tight lines across the entire body. Palm wear has faded the neck profile to a lighter shade of Walnut, while the body remains a bright, vibrant Cherry. The neck profile shows only a few pinhead sized shallow nicks which do not affect playability in the slightest. There are also a few expected chips and nicks around the headstock edges and chips through the finish on the contoured edges of the body (particularly at the treble side lower bout edge near the control cavity cover and around the bass side edge as well to a lesser degree), but as the photos show this is a very clean example for discerning collectors and studio musicians alike.

A modern Gibson black tolex hardshell case is included.
