"Beek" is an approximately 12 1/2" hand carved wooden elderly woman doll that is tagged "Pleasant Hill Academy Crafts" on one side of her hang tag, and "'Beek'  Price 1.50  Ceder" (?) on its other side.  Beek is a ruggedly chip-carved wooden doll that is wire jointed at her shoulders, thighs, and knees.  Her joints bend stiffly.  Her socket head with penciled pupils and detailed hair bun moves from side to side within its "block" cut wooden torso.  She has been given rather large painted feet (paint wear) and primitive "lobster claw" carved hands.  Beek wears a black calico cotton dress, a coordinating black bonnet, a plain styled petticoat, and pantaloons.  Her clothing sustains dust, discoloration, and spotting.  More notably discolored and spotted are her petticoat and pantaloons.  Beek and her clothing may need a cleaning.  Beek may have been hand carved by doll artist Polly Page as Polly Page enrolled at the Pleasant Hill Academy in Tennessee  in 1929.  Another artist, Mr. William Perry Smith, was also known to have hand carved wooden dolls circa the 1940's on.  Beek is an appealing and early folk art character doll that may have been "whittled" as early as the 1930's.  She may represent an actual person that her artist knew.

PLEASE study the photos carefully and email with all questions! My photos detail her condition accurately. Though I have tried to provide an honest and detailed description, I may have omitted information that is important to you. I have also provided photos that "speak volumes."
