Q: To what surfaces will Command™ Products stick?
A: Almost any sealed/ painted surface such as painted Gyprock®, stained or varnished wood, painted smooth concrete, glass, ceramic tile and stainless steel.
Q: What surfaces should I avoid using Command™ products on?
A: Unpainted surfaces, rough or porous surfaces like bricks, bare wood, wall paper, plastic surfaces such as vinyl.
Q: Can I use Command™ Products on freshly painted surfaces?
A: Paint should be fully cured. Check paint can for manufacturer's cure time. It is recommended to wait at least 30 days after painting before applying Command™ products. Note that poorly prepared painted surfaces such as poor undercoat, trapped dust, grease and mould could result in the peeling of the painted surface.
Q: Why can't I clean the surface with a household cleaner?
A: Many household cleaners leave behind a very thin layer of residue that affects how strongly the adhesive will bond to the surface. Use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the surface, available from chemists or local hardware stores. Methylated Spirits is not recommended.
Q: What happens if I pull too hard and the strip breaks?
A: Simply heat up the base plate with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive. Then use dental floss to gently cut through the foam to remove the hook or hanger from the surface. Stretch or peel off the remaining adhesive.
Q: Can I use Command™ products in hot climates?
A: Extreme heat conditions may cause the adhesive to eventually deteriorate, resulting in product failure. The adhesive could soften and lose adhesion with temperatures above 40°C.
Q: What about using Command(TM) products in cold climates?
A: You can, but the adhesive should be applied to a clean, smooth surface when the temperature is above 10°C. If the temperature is below 10°C, you can heat the surface with a hair dryer before application.
Q: What are some possible uses for Command™ Products?
A: Hooks are perfect for closets, lockers, offices, kitchens, laundry rooms, kids rooms, bathrooms, garages, boats and campers. Each package of hooks comes with extra strips so the hooks can be reused or repositioned. Picture Hanging Strips are great for hanging frames on the wall and creating collages and mood walls without wall damage.
Q: Why do I have to wait an hour before hanging an item?
A: The one-hour wait ensures that the adhesive has had enough time to build strong adhesion to the wall or surface.
Q: Can I use more than one hook if I want to hang an item that's heavier than the weight listed?
A: No. We do not recommend this for our hook products. Weight may not be distributed equally and can result in failure.
