A perfect present for anyone interested in RAF Bomber Command in WW2. This fourth title from Laundry Cottage Books was published in July 2015.

Flight Lieutenant John Trotman DFC* now 96 recounts his experiences growing up in the 1920's/30's and then his remarkble story of life as an RAF bomber pilot in Wellingtons and later as a Pathfinder with a Mosquito squadron. Taking the war to the enemy from his first operation on 30th May 1942 as part of the first 1000 bomber raid until his final mission on 2nd May 1945. John flew 70 operational missions in two tours, including attacking Berlin 18 times. He has meticulously reproduced his log book detailing all his missions including remarks made at the time.

After the war, John left the RAF and set about building a life in post-war Britain. Part of that struggle led him to the agonising decision to sell his wartime medals, logbooks and congratulatory telegram from Air Chief Marshall 'Bomber' Harris on the award of his first DFC. Years later, John now widowed, would meet and fall in love with his physiotherapist, who would help him to track down and recover his medals from the other side of the world and encourage him to write his story.

On December 14th 2016 John was presented by the French Goverment with the medal - The Chevalier in the Order National de la Legion d'Honeur - 70 years after D Day, The French Goverment wished to honour those who helped to free France from the yoke of the German occupation.
