Refurbished Lucas Windscreen Wiper Motors These are the well-known Lucas CW series units fitted to the windscreens of most 1930s sports cars, and also many post-war vehicles. These units are normally quite reliable and powerful. However, some are eighty years old and can fail when most-needed! They can benefit from a complete rebuild.

We carry out a thorough examination and if necessary strip them down completely. The armature and field coils are tested electrically for continuity and insulation. Worn carbon brushes are replaced, the on/off switch adjusted and any wiring with perished insulation replaced. The mechanical parts of the gearbox are examined, repaired where necessary, and re-lubricated using the recommend grease and oil Any missing parts are replaced. The covers are then re-sprayed for an as-new appearance. We give them a thorough test, installed on an actual windscreen, with a wiper arm and blade to provide a realistic load.

Most motors have the usual mounting arrangement of two 3BA studs which attach through the windscreen frame. However, there are some units which have two mounting “ears” attached to the back plate. Other variants have a fixing boss concentric with the drive shaft.

We are also interested in buying old wiper motors, even if not working, and take units on part-exchange. Old motors which are complete and have not lost any of their original parts are particularly wanted.
