ORIGINAL 1945 SATURDAY EVENING POST MEAD SCHAEFFER 'ROMANCE UNDER SHAKESPEARE STATUE' CENTRAL PARK NEW YORK CITY POSTER
This is a great piece. I recently acquired a small collection of original Saturday Evening Post posters from right around the end of World War 2 that are a wonderful representation of what life was like just after soldiers returned home. Done by some of the most important 20th Century illustrators including a couple by Norman Rockwell. Mead Schaeffer was Norman Rockwell's neighbor and was responsible for over 45 Saturday Evening Post covers throughout the early 1940s. THis one and his depiction of the cable cars of San Franciso are 2 of his more famous examples. This is a wonderful original poster. Lithograph on paper measuring 28 x 22 inches. Overall excellent condition. Great original color. There are some minor edge tears but nothing too bad. One small edge tear at the bottom center was repaired long ago with tape verso and the tape still holds and has not bled through to the front of the image. There are a some creases and handling creases that are really only evident on the back. Really an excellent example of this scarce original poster. Do your own research on this poster.
