Jewel Frog Leaf Beetle – Sagra femorata

Body size: 8 - 22 mm

This is a leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae). Sub-family, the Sagrinae. The genus Sagra has over 50 different types of large stately, all have a magnificent metallic coloring and heavily thickened, while males gezähnte addition, but not appropriate for jumping back leg. The spread of about 50 species of this genus ranges from Africa, Madagascar, India, China to the world and East Asian island is once again an example of how, despite strict separation of Oriental and African animal region commonalities exist. The nature Sagra femorata takes its name from the Hinterschenkeln thickened.

This Sagra species(order Coleoptera, family Chrysomelidae) is called Jewelled Frog Beetles due to their strong hindlegs, used in male-to-male combat and for defence. This beetle is brightly metallic colored. The antennae are less than half the length of the body, which is typically smooth and hairless. Groups of eggs are laid on host plants. The larvae live inside plant stems. Pupation normally occurs in the soil. Can be found in subtropical regions and widespread on plants in all terrestrial habitats.***
