Civil War-dated autograph quotation signed, “Yours, to break every yoke, Wm. Lloyd Garrison, Boston, Oct. 8, 1861.”  Garrison would often sign off letters with this famous quote originating from Isaiah 58:6, “break every yoke and set the captives free.”  Abolitionist William Goodell believed that this scripture demanded, “The liberation of the enslaved.” The quote is one page, measures 5.5” by 2.75”, in fine condition with spotting and having been attached to a larger piece of paper, and accompanied with a photograph of Garrison.
