Beautiful vintage handwoven cotton and dyed African indigo fabric, made by the Dogon in Mali. Textiles are dyed with the stitch resist dying techniques and each piece is unique. All the ones I will be listing are hard to find, older indigo pieces in very good conditon, and all were used and soft from wear and washing. This piece has a wonderful stitch dyed linear “ladder” or "butterfly” pattern  running down the length.

Medium weight; lighter, faded blue color (but no “grey” shade to it as some of the photos unfortunately seem to show); 45" x 60”; 5 strips sewn together. Very good-excellent condition: one end unfinished, the other end had tied fringe but most of it has come untied; some seam repair, as is normal; a hole by one of the repaired seams; fading toward the center from wear.

I was lucky to have “first choice” of several large containers of indigos as they arrived directly from Africa, and I picked ones that were in the best condition, and/or those with the most unique designs. There are almost always a few flaws, which I will note in my listings and photographs.
