Wool is a natural product which keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It helps stabilse your body at its optimum temperature through its natural cooling process.
Because it is breatheable, damp will evaporate so your baby is never really wet and your baby tends to have less rashes.
The wool fibre changes the urine into salt water a process called salinization. It smells bad when wet but it dry cleans itself as it airs and so will smell clean again. The wool fibres also disribute and absorb the wet which is why wool covers hardly ever leak.
By lanolising the finished woollies we making a waterproof barrier too.
All my woollies are lanolised once before they are posted to you.
If they are damp just leave to air before re-using them. They only need washing every few weeks when the salt starts to build up making it harder for the self clean process to work so they start to smell or if they get any poo on them.
LANOLIZING
You can lanolise each time you wash them using a product like woolcure or you can just wash them by soaking in a bowl of warm water with a little liquid hand soap or baby shampoo. Lightly rinse and then gently squeeze out the water. Then roll in to a tea towel and squeeze any excess water.Dry flat if possible, over a radiator airer or over the back of a chair works well.
To re-lanolise.
Most lanolin come with directions on how to use but if not put a pea sized amount of solid lanolin into a small cup of hot water to dissolve together with a little liquid soap or baby shampoo,it should turn milky.
Pour into a bowl of warm water ( a empty ice cream tub is ideal to keep for this purpose as it often stays a little greasy) and then add your woollies for an hour or two.
Squeeze excess water and roll in a towel.Dry as above.
If they need softening a bit add a small amount of white vinegar to the water.
