CANADIAN TOURIST REGULATIONS.

U.S. citizens do not need passports to enter or leave Canada but should cary proof of nationality.  Naturalized U.S. citizens must carry naturalization certificates.  Aliens resident in the U.S. must have their Alien Registration Cards.

A visitor to Canada may enter his vehicle duty free for as long as 6 months.  If entering for not more than 48 hours the driver may deposit his registration card if returning through the same point.  If departing through a different point, or remaining for a longer period, he must obtain a Traveler’s Vehicle Permit good for 6 months.  The driver who is not the legal owner of a vehicle must satisfy Customs that he has authority to bring that vehicle into Canada.  In some provinces a car may be impounded if proof of financial responsibility is not furnished in case of accident.  Determine whether your insurance is valid in Canada.  Special regulations for equipment and funds govern travel on Alaska Hwy.  Write Canadian Gov’t Travel Bureau, Ottawa.

Personal effects, tourists’ outfits and sportsmen’s equipment to be used on vacation may be entered duty free.  Equipment should be reported to the Customs Officer at the point of entry, and on leaving Canada it should be checked out through  Customs.

Dogs and other animals accompanied by their owners may be entered without deposit.  Licensed veterinarian’s certificates must be produced certifying dogs have been vaccinated against rabies within the  past 6 months, that they are free from contagious disease and not known to have been recently exposed to contagious disease.

Each United States resident who has been in Canada 48 hours may bring into the United States once in 31 days, duty free, articles aggregating $200 in value, and after 12 days visit, may bring in ( not more than once in 6 months) articles of an additional $300 in value for personal or household use, and not intended for resale.

Note that 5 gallons (Imperial Measure) in Canada equal 6 gallons (Wine Measure) in the United States.
