MILLAR, George Henry.,  A FINE LARGE ANTIQUE COPPER PLATE ENGRAVING OF FISHES, c1785, SHOWING SEVERAL  VARIETIES OF RARE FISH INCLUDING SEA EAGLE, SEA DEVIL, GRAYLING, GURNARD, SEA EEL, etc.

[London: Published by Alexander Hogg.:[circa 1785].  An attractive antique eighteenth century copper engraved print showing several species of rare fish including Sea Eagle, Sea Devil, Grayling, Gurnard, Sea Eel, etc.  Originally engraved for the rare nineteenth century work on natural history by George Henry Millar published in London in  circa 1785.  Approx. image size 360mm x 200mm (approx. 14" x 8") with printed title, and margins for mounting and framing.  A generally VG bright impression of this copper plate engraving printed on chain-linked paper. Please note the actual engraving is much more clearer and vibrant than that shown in the illustration.

Chain linked paper was the way high quality paper was made in the olden days. The paper pulp was laid on a lattice of thin chains so it could be dried. If you hold the paper up to a bright light, you can see where the chains were.
