SHOE LACE AGLETS

We have here available a supply of black aglets (shoe lace tips). They are perfect for making your own shoe laces or repairing laces that have lost their tips and are sold in lots of 8.

The end of the lace is inserted into the aglet which has an inbuilt shrinking action when heat is applied. Hair straighteners or boiling water are the ideal heat applications to shrink them although more information will be sent with your order. The aglets will typically shrink down to about half their initial diameter and there is a choice of 4 different diameters. These initial (unshrunk) sizes are:
  •   6.4 mm diameter (so the reduction is from 6.4 mm down to 3.2 mm)
  •   4.8 mm diameter (so the reduction is from 4.8 mm down to 2.4 mm)
  •   3.2 mm diameter  (so the reduction is from 3.2 mm down to 1.6 mm)
  •    2.4 mm diameter (so the reduction is from 2.4 mm down to 1.2 mm)
One aglet is typically 20 mm long although unless you advise us to the contrary, your order will be dispatched in a single length based on the ordered quantity multiplied by 20 mm. This will give you greater flexibility by enabling  you to cut the aglet to the exact size you require as laces differ greatly in actual aglet length. It will also minimise wastage.  Please note that the stated diameter size is the internal measurement and to help you select the most appropriate diameter we can tell you that 6.4 mm aglets are typically suitable for cord or heavy duty laces. For standard or medium laces we would recommend 3.2 mm or 4.8 mm aglets. For very narrow laces, we would recommend 2.4 mm diameter aglets and please note that it is important to try and buy the smallest unshrunk diameter that you think will accept the end of your lace or ribbon. This will give the best, neatest and tightest fitting end result. If you are still unsure, we have a listing which allows you to buy a combination of the different sizes. It is Ebay item number 153350127683 and if you copy and paste this number into the Ebay search box, it will direct you straight there. We also offer a "full monty" selection in this listing which is 8 aglets (160 mm) of each diameter.

You should perhaps be aware that the aglets on commercially produced laces, such as those that come with new shoes, are produced using ultrasonic heating or plastic moulding machines that cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. It is consequently unlikely that your home produced laces/aglets will have a similar professional quality but the use of this heat shrink method is however universally accepted as a safe and, to most people, reasonable alternative.
