Thailand (#567)

International Doll

Madame Alexander Doll Company put out different versions of dress of the Thailand doll in the 1970s.

Thailand, country located in the centre of mainland Southeast Asia. Located wholly within the tropics, Thailand encompasses diverse ecosystems, including the hilly forested areas of the northern frontier, the fertile rice fields of the central plains, the broad plateau of the northeast, and the rugged coasts along the narrow southern peninsula.

This doll is wearing a traditional “Chut Thai” which translates to “Thai outfit.”  This outfit is mainly used for dance.  The bottom is a silk wrap-around garment called a chong kraben.  It ties around the waist and wrapped similar to a loose loincloth that end around the shin.  The top is a bright print with gold fringe details.  The head dress is called the Terd from which two fresh flower garlands hung from either side.  She has gold sandals on her feet.

Doll comes in an authentic Madame Alexander box and tag.  A free heart-shaped doll stand is included.
