EXCEPTIONAL DUTCH FOLKLORE WORTELDOEK PAISLEY SHAWL

Paisley shawl. We call these “worteldoek” freely translated that means carrot cloth, the name came from German farm workers who travelled from Germany and had in these kind of cloths their belongings and tools to harvest carrots. The noble picked up on the patterns and made them fashionable with Kashmir patterns hence the paisley shawl. Eventually they had all kind of use; behind the coat rack in a triangle form to keep the chalk from the coats. And of course as a shawl.

This one is a rectangular cloth. In excellent condition. Approx 53″ or 135 cm tall and 48″ or 122 cm wide. Signs of use.
