AECHMEA "Raspberry"

(Very Rare Floridian cultivar 70's)

This beautiful and collectable medium to large hybrid Bromeliad has tall very stiff  green, yellow, red tinged in full sun, upright leaves to 60 cms tall.
The rosette of leaves are handsomely formed. The raspberry pink inflorescense cone shaped bract is large and held on a tall stem rising from the cup to 90cm tall it can last six or more months! Vibrant Blue flowers continue flowering in succession for many months.
 Leaves green when young but colour up with orange red markings in full sun as they mature.
 If you prefer to keep it green, maintain it in medium light as in some of my photos.
Keep water in cups at all times. 

This species makes a fine container specimen plant or border plant, pups and flowers reliably.
A beauty and relatively cold tolerant. 
A very hard to find old hybrid Aechmea.

Use an orchid type compost, humus and bark for a porous and slightly acid medium. Keep soil somewhat dry, water once or twice each week, mist leaves if practical. Most Bromeliads adapt well to greenhouse, home or conservatory conditions.  Produces offshoots and blooms reliably through the Autumn/Winter Min Temp: 5c+
  
(Note: Bromeliads are mainly supplied as pups, ramets, as divided from mother plants, they sometimes have some roots, not always, this is normal, roots form fast on planting)
