Rope Measurement Information
New ropes are generally thicker than their given diameter.
When your new rope arrives, it will not be under tension and may look
a little 'fat'
Ropes must be measured under load with Vernier Calipers,
Attempting to measure the diameter - by eye, with a tape measure or
even Vernier Calipers - before it has been fully stretched isn't likely to
produce an accurate result.
Once you have used (and stretched) your new rope, it will become
thinner (and longer) and should measure more closely to the nominal
diameter.
It’s unlikely but, there is the possibility that we may have sent you
the wrong rope or measured the rope incorrectly by mistake.
