Description
A MARCOT / CUTTING IS AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN A GRAFTED TREE .
A MARCOT IS A CUTTING GROWN ON A FRUITING TREE SO IT WILL BEAR EXACTLY THE SAME FRUIT AS THE TREE IT WAS TAKEN FROM AND WILL ALSO BEAR FRUIT AS QUICK , SOMETIMES EVEN QUICKER THAN A GRAFTED TREE.
A MARCOT IS ALSO A LOT EASIER TO MAINTAIN THAN A GRAFTED TREE .
A GRAFTED TREE IS MADE UP OF (THE ROOT STOCK) WHICH IS THE BOTTOM PART OF THE TREE AND THE (SCION) WHICH IS THE TOP PART OF THE TREE.THE (SCION) IS CHOSEN FROM A TREE THAT ALREADY BEARS FRUIT AND IS PUT ON TOP OF A (ROOT STOCK) TREE THAT IS NORMALLY GROWN FROM A SEED.
THIS IS WHY A GRAFTED TREE BEARS FRUIT QUICKER THAN A TREE GROWN FROM A SEED BUT IT ALSO MEANS THE SEEDLING (ROOT STOCK) AT THE BOTTOM OF A GRAFTED TREE WILL ALSO KEEP GROWING AND SHOOTING OUT IT'S OWN BRANCHES
IF THE (ROOT STOCK) PART OF THE GRAFTED TREE ISN'T PRUNED BACK ALL THE TIME IT WILL STEAL ENERGY FROM THE (SCION) AT THE TOP OF THE GRAFT AND CAN OVERTAKE THE TREE RESULTING IN GROWING A SEEDLING TREE INSTEAD OF A GRAFTED TREE.
A MARCOT IS TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM A TREE THAT IS ALREADY FRUITING SO IT WILL ALSO BEAR FRUIT QUICKLY JUST LIKE A GRAFTED TREE SOMETIMES EVEN QUICKER.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MARCOT AND A GRAFTED TREE IS THAT A MARCOT DOES NOT NEED A ROOT STOCK OR A SCION AS IT GROWS ROOTS ON THE TREE ITSELF AND THEN IS CUT OFF AND POTTED UP SO IT CAN GROW ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT THE NEED FOR GRAFTING.
THIS MEANS THAT A MARCOT WILL NEVER NEED TO PE PRUNED AS THERE IS NO GRAFT FOR THE TREE TO COMPETE WITH SO IT IS MUCH EASIER TO MAINTAIN AND ALL OF THE ENERGY FROM THE ROOTS ONLY GO INTO GROWING THE TREE.
IN THE TROPICS CROPS LIKE LYCHEES AND RAMBUTANS ARE ONLY GROWN FROM MARCOTS SO IT GOES TO SHOW THAT MARCOTS ARE JUST AS GOOD AS GRAFTED TREES.
THE ROOT STOCKS USED FOR MOST GRAFTED TREES ARE ALSO ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH COOLER CLIMATES SO IF YOU LIVE IN WARMER CLIMATES YOU ARE MUCH BETTER OFF TO GROW MARCOTS THAN GRAFTED TREES AS THE ROOT STOCK WILL MORE THAN LIKELY DIE AND SO WILL YOUR TREE.
CITRUS TREES GROWN FROM MARCOTS ARE NATURALLY SEMI DWARFED WHICH IS GREAT FOR SMALL YARDS.THIS ALSO MEANS THEY NEED LESS PRUNING.

How to look after your fruit tree when it arrives.
* Your fruit tree will arrive potted up in a 1.8 litre poly bag planted into a soil less nursery grade potting mix.
*Your tree MUST be kept it in the same black poly bag it arrives in for a minimum of 30 Days before being transplanted.
This is very important so that your tree can become acclimatised to it's new environment so when it is transplanted into a larger pot or in the ground it will do it's very best.
* Please keep your tree in semi shade for the first 2-3 weeks and slowly bring it out into full sunlight to sun harden your tree.
* When your tree arrives you can purchase some seaweed solution and some slow release fertiliser such as osmocote and use according to the specific directions. This will help feed the plant over the next 30 Days while it is still in the poly bag.
*PLEASE DO NOT OVER FERTILISE YOUR TREE AS THIS WILL BURN THE ROOTS AND YOU RUN THE RISK OF THE TREE DYING.FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ON YOUR FERTILSER CAREFULLY.
*We do advise to keep your tree in the bag for a little longer than 30 Days but after the 30 Days period when the tree is sun hardened and is used to it's new environment it can be planted directly into the ground or another pot
PLEASE NOTE :
*IF YOU ARE PURCHASING DECIDUOUS TREES PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THEY WILL LOSE THEIR LEAVES AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE YEAR AND WILL SHOOT BACK NEW GROWTH AFTER THEIR DORMANT PERIOD.
*ALL TREE CARE INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED CAREFULLY.
* IF YOUR TREE/S HAS BEEN TRANSPLANTED BEFORE THE 6 WEEK PERIOD INTO ANOTHER POT OR INTO THE GROUND IT WON'T BE COVERED BY OUR RETURNS POLICY.
