If you like punk then these pioneers from the UK should be on the top of your list.  Siouxsie and The Banshees are a punk band that started it of in the 70s and are still around.  Little known is that Robert Smith of The Cure played in this band as a guitarist while he was in his band The Cure for awhile until his doctor told him to take it easy.  Great band!!!
