Der Designer Kaj Franck wurde 1911 im finnischen Vyborg geboren. Sein Engagement für einen demokratischen und frei zugänglichen Umgang mit Design brachte ihm den Titel “das Gewissen des finnischen Designs” ein. Franck gilt heute als einer der bedeutendsten Designer Finnlands und ist vor allem für seine Tisch- und Glasarbeiten bekannt. Sowie unzählige wunderbare Kunst-Glas Arbeiten.

Francks berufliche Laufbahn wurde insbesondere von der Arbeit für zwei bekannte finnische Keramikhersteller und Glashütten geprägt Iittala and Arabia (die beide später von der finnischen Fiskars Gruppe aufgekauft wurden). Um das Jahr 1946 begann Franck als Produktdesigner für Arabia zu arbeiten und setzte damit den Startschuss für eine lange und sehr erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit. Bei diesem Keramikunternehmen war er bis 1976 als Designdirektor für deren Tochterfirma für Glaswaren, Nuutajärvi Notsjo, tätig.

Kaj Franck war später für Iittala tätig und gilt neben Alvar Aalto, Tapio Wirkkala, Oiva Toikka und Timo Sarpaneva als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter finnischen Designs.
