The first iteration of the traditional 'Stars & Stripes' that most are used to seeing. The thirteen stars are said to represent the first 13 states of America: Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia. This version of the flag was flown for 18 years from 1777 to 1795.
