This is a rare April 20th, 1931 program (playbill) from the out-of-town tryout of the JOHN EMERSON and ANITA LOOS comedy "CHERRIES ARE RIPE" at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production toured during the 1930-31 season, but failed to arrive in New York.) ..... The play starred film star VILMA BANKY and her husband ROD LA ROCQUE and featured RICHIE LING, GAVIN MUIR, JEANETTE FOX LEE, BERT WITTLY, KATHARINE VLEET and JUAN VARRO ..... CREDITS: Book by JOHN EMERSON and ANITA LOOS based on a Hungarian play by GYULA SOMOGYI which was translated by I. S. RICHTER; Sets designed by STEPHEN GOLDING; Costumes designed by HELEN PONS, CHANEL, PATOU and MOLYNEUX of Paris; Directed by CONSTANCE COLLIER; Produced by ARCH SELWYN in association with ERLANGER PRODUCTIONS ..... DETAILS: The 36 page program measures 5 3/8" X 7 3/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, bios of each of the leading actors and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a vertical fold, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
