White Plains, NEW YORK - Presbyterian Rest - 1908: White Plains is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is the county seat and commercial hub of Westchester, an affluent suburban county just north of New York City that is home to almost one million people. White Plains is located in south-central Westchester, with its downtown (Mamaroneck Avenue) 25 miles (40 km) north of Midtown Manhattan. As of 2013, the city's total population was estimated to be 57,866, up from 53,077 at the 2010 census. From June 4, 1893 New York Times: "The Presbyterian Rest, for convalescents, an adjunct to the Presbyterian Hospital of New York, was opened at White Plains Thursday… The Rest is on the site of the military school formerly conducted by O.R. Willis. It contains 40 beds for the accommodation of Protestant poor discharged from hospitals and otherwise properly recommended. The limit of the sojourn is two weeks, unless contrary orders are given by the Board of Management, which is composed of New York women."
