Extraordinarily beautiful (true - reversed ) pair of Museum Quality side chairs sculpted in the early 18th century. The seat backs are expertly hand carved wood in the chinoiserie style of the 1720s  period , complete with singes ( monkeys ) et oiseaux ( birds ) . All  unique sculpture . On chair 1 is a large monkey at the center back with a peacock above him where he stretches out his arm to the right. On chair 2 is the reverse facing monkey with a phoenix above his monkey hand to his left. Surrounding this is the traditional exceptional asymmetrical curves , ornamental scrolls , and acanthus leaves and from top to toe , front and back more sculpture , with a lighter ornamentation on the legs and under seat.
