a small, authentic antique, circa 12th century

 standing with his hands in Anjali Mudra on a conical pedestal

height: 12 cm / circa 4.7 inch - weight: circa 109 gr.

condition: fair, authentic old patina, authentic wear - due to handling, touching and rubbing for many many years,

although there is a crack to be seen at his front waist, this is an imperfection caused during the casting, so not a restoration

Description:

we see an ornamented  crown  / headdress with the depiction of horizontal rows of jewels,

the eyes are open, not closed,

the eyebrows are not fully straight and broken above the nose,

the nose is long and slightly hooked,

full lips, no moustache, no beard,

enlarged earlobs, not pierced,

further jewellery: a necklace, upper arm and wrist bracelets,

a naked upper body and wearing a sompot / robe wrapped around the lower body

the back is not decorated, but has remains of gilding,

we believe it is amalgam / fire / mercury gilding, not foil or leaf gold.

Provenance:

a The Hague private collection of Indonesian objects, sculptures and statues,

 small bronzes like this were easily carried and travelled during the centuries, in this case to Indonesia and then on to Holland
