Between 1911 and  1921m Native Americans submitted more than 2500 pages of wills and probate  records to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the agency responsible for determining  the heirs of deceased Indian trust allottees.

 

For This  volume the Mr. Bowen transcribed about 180 manuscript pagesconsisting of  verbatim wills and referencing about 2000 individuals from a number of tribes,  including the Chippewa, Sioux, Apache, Shawnee, Quapaw, Assinboin, Leach Lake  Chippewa, Confederated Flathead, Ponca, Cheyene, Crow, Sac & Fox, Nez Pierce,  Southern Ute, Omaha, and Osage.
